Why we made these books

You told us the videos were worth watching twice.

Under every lecture on the channel, the same comment appears in a hundred different words: “I had to watch it again.” A video moves at its own speed. A book waits for you.

So we wrote everything down: every thought experiment, every “aha”, drawn out step by step, with a recap at the end of each chapter so the idea stays with you.

“Hard to get your mind around this but you have to watch a few times.”

Top comment on Why Does Mass Create Gravity? (410K views)

“I don’t fully understand why I like listening to these… most of it I struggle to understand but it’s compelling.”

Comment on The Quantum Truth Einstein Saw (266K views)

“I have a bit of smoke coming out of my ears. I will need to watch this again.”

What’s inside each volume.

Each book is built on the channel’s most-watched lectures, rewritten from scratch for the page and checked against the sources.

Volume I

Gravity, Light & Time

129 pages · 51 diagrams
  1. Nothing Is Pulling You DownEinstein’s happiest thought, and why a falling apple is the most relaxed thing in the universe.
  2. Clocks Run Slow Near the GroundThe real reason things fall: time runs slower lower down. A tower, two clocks and your phone’s GPS.
  3. What Mass Does to SpacetimeThe rubber sheet, what it gets right and wrong, a planet that would not behave, and a famous eclipse.
  4. You Are Always Moving at the Speed of LightThe spacetime speed budget: why moving through space means moving less through time.
  5. Light Never AgesWhy a photon has no point of view, why nothing outruns light, and the cones that shape cause and effect.
  6. The Twins Who DisagreeParticles from the sky that live too long, atomic clocks on airliners, and the twin paradox untangled.
  7. Every Star You See Is a GhostLight’s delay turns every telescope into a time machine, all the way back to the edge of the observable universe.
  8. You Are Mostly EnergyWhat E = mc² really says, why 99% of your mass is trapped motion, and how the Sun gets lighter every second.
  9. Black Holes: Where Inward Becomes the FutureFrom escape speed to event horizons, dead stars, the first photograph of a black hole, and Hawking’s glow.
  10. Ripples and the Stretching SkyGravitational waves, the expanding universe, and the one great question nobody has answered yet.
Volume II

The Quantum Notebook

  1. One Experiment Holds the Whole MysteryBullets, water and single electrons at two slits.
  2. What Watching Really DoesWhich-path information, decoherence, and why minds are not involved.
  3. Every Path at OnceSpinning arrows, and why a mirror reflects at equal angles.
  4. What Is a Field, Really? From Faraday’s filings to quantum fields, and why electrons are identical.
  5. Empty Space Is Not EmptyThe quantum vacuum, the Casimir force and the Lamb shift.
  6. The Electron That Keeps You AlivePauli exclusion, the periodic table, solid matter and white dwarfs.

The Invisible Web

132 pages · 61 diagrams
  1. The Invisible Web You Live InsideCharges, fields, why you never quite touch anything, and why static electricity still starts arguments.

  4. Electricity Is Not What FlowsElectrons crawl, signals race, energy travels outside the wire, and batteries hold no electricity at all.
  5. Your Bones Make ElectricityPiezoelectricity, a 1957 discovery in Tokyo, how bone reshapes itself, and the real electricity of nerves.
  6. How Trains Stay on the TrackConed wheels, a self-centring trick that is older than the telephone, and why the flanges are only the backup.
  7. Why a Bicycle Stays UpThe gyroscope myth, steering geometry, a bicycle with no gyro and no trail, and angular momentum done right.
  8. Rain Should Hit You Like BulletsFalling with and without air, terminal velocity, and the true shape of a raindrop (it is not a tear).
  9. Trees Pump Water a Hundred Metres UpWhy suction stops at ten metres, water held under tension, and what botanists still argue about.
  10. The Gas That Leaves the PlanetHelium: made by slow radioactive decay, lost to space for good, and quietly holding up modern medicine.
Is it for you?

Written for the curious, not the qualified.

These books are for you if…

  • You love the lectures but some ideas still slip away afterwards
  • You never studied physics, or studied it long ago, and want to really get it now
  • You like to read slowly, underline, and come back to things
  • You’re looking for a thoughtful gift for a curious mind

They’re not for you if…

  • You need a textbook full of equations for an exam
  • You want “secret knowledge” or mysticism: we stick to what the evidence shows
  • You only want a summary of the videos: the books go further, with new examples and diagrams
A note from The Physics of Everything

When we started this channel, we wanted to bring back a way of teaching physics: plain words, simple thought experiments, and the honesty to say “nobody knows yet” when nobody does. The best physics teachers have always taught that way.

Your comments taught us something we didn’t expect. Many of you watch each lecture two or three times. You pause, rewind, sketch on paper. Some of you are seventy and learning relativity for the first time. That is wonderful, and it deserves better than scrubbing back and forth through a video.

So we built the books we wished existed: every idea taken slowly, drawn carefully, checked against the sources, and finished with a recap you can come back to. They’re meant to sit next to the videos, and to go further than the videos can.

If they don’t make physics click for you, tell us within 30 days and we’ll refund you. No questions.

Questions

Common questions

Do I need to know any math or physics?

No. The books are written for curious adults with no physics background. When an equation appears (rarely), it is explained in words, and you can skip it without losing the thread.

What format are the books?

High-resolution PDFs in a 7 × 10 inch book format. They read beautifully on a tablet, laptop or large phone, and they print well if you prefer paper.

Are these just transcripts of the videos?

No. Each chapter was written from scratch for the page, with new examples, original diagrams, kitchen-table experiments and an end-of-chapter recap. Several chapters go well beyond what the videos cover.

Who writes the books?

The same team that makes the lectures on our YouTube channel. Every chapter was written for the page and checked against published sources, which are listed at the back of each book.

How do I get the books after paying?

Immediately. You’ll see a download page right after checkout, and the links are also emailed to you.

Can I buy Volume III on its own?

Not at the moment. The Invisible Web is only available as part of the Complete Library, which costs just $3 more than Volumes I and II bought separately.

What if I don’t like them?

Reply to your receipt email within 30 days for a full refund. No forms, no questions.

Are they good for a teenager?

Yes. A curious reader of 14 or older will enjoy them, and the “Try it” experiments are made for doing together.
